Palma is on track for one of its busiest Christmas periods on record, with hotels in the city expecting occupancy levels close to 90% on the key festive dates of 23, 24, 25 and 31 December, according to the Palma and Cala Major Hoteliers’ Association (Ashpama).
Occupancy across December is already running at around 70% in the city’s larger hotels, fuelled by steady demand from overseas visitors and a growing number of local residents choosing to celebrate Christmas and New Year with hotel stays. German travellers remain a key market, while festive dinners and end-of-year galas continue to draw strong interest.
Flagship hotels including Nixe Palace and GPRO Valparaíso, along with several properties operated by chains such as Meliá, are reporting they are close to fully booked, helped by their traditional Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve events.
The strong outlook comes as non-EU travellers adjust to new border control measures at Palma airport, where the recent introduction of the Entry/Exit System (EES) has lengthened waiting times. Further changes are on the horizon, with the ETIAS travel authorisation system due to be introduced in late 2026.
