Mallorca’s new taxi prices: what you need to know before getting in

A unified fare system now covers much of the island — and it’s already changing how rides are priced.

Taxi prices in Mallorca just became a lot easier to decode. A unified fare system is now active in 21 of the island’s 53 municipalities — Palma among them — with 77% of all Mallorcan taxis already switched to the new rates.

The new scheme replaces a patchwork of four different tariffs — urban, interurban, day and night — with a simplified structure. During the high season (1 June to 30 September), the old interurban rate disappears entirely, leaving just one fare system across much of the island. Inside each municipality, the new tariff applies year-round, ending odd situations like parts of Palma’s outskirts being charged night prices even during the daytime.

One of the biggest changes is the daytime flag-down rate (from 7am to 9pm), which drops from €3.15 to €2.50, with a kilometre price of €1.20. Unlike before, when the first kilometre was included, the meter now starts running the moment the trip begins. Night, weekend and holiday fares are higher: the meter starts at €2.85, followed by €1.35 per kilometre.

The existing €4.65 supplements for airport and port pick-ups remain in place, but for the first time there is also a minimum fare for airport departures — €16.95, regardless of where you’re heading.

Outside the high season, the old interurban rates still apply for trips that cross into another municipality: during the day, a minimum fare of €3.31 and €1.16 per kilometre; at night, €4.25 and €1.32 per kilometre.

New surcharges have also been introduced for pre-booked journeys, mountain routes and larger-capacity taxis. Meanwhile, luggage, pushchairs, wheelchairs and guide dogs continue to travel free of charge.

The Balearic Government approved the island-wide single tariff at the end of June, and drivers began updating their meters in mid-September. After a transition period, the unified fare system is now in effect, though more municipalities are still joining. A second phase added 13 towns in the north and centre — including Pollença, Alcúdia, Inca and Sa Pobla — and Artà, Sant Llorenç and Son Servera are expected to follow in the coming weeks. The agreement lasts for one year, with the option of extending it for up to four.
