Record-breaking season: 13.7 million tourists, €18 billion spent

13.7 million foreign visitors and over €18 billion spent by September as British travellers lead the late-summer surge.

The Balearic Islands’ tourism boom shows no sign of slowing. By the end of September, the archipelago had welcomed 13.7 million international visitors, a 3% rise on last year — and a clear sign that the islands remain Europe’s go-to Mediterranean escape.

According to Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE), 2.18 million foreign tourists arrived in September alone, extending the high season well into autumn.

And they didn’t just come — they spent. Foreign visitors poured €18.38 billion into the Balearic economy between January and September, up 5.9% year on year. The average spend per person, per holiday, hit €1,341, with daily spending climbing to €218.

The United Kingdom once again led the charge, with almost 2.1 million British tourists — a 2% increase compared with last year — while arrivals from Germany and France softened slightly, down 2.5% and 1.6% respectively.

In September alone, visitors splashed out €2.84 billion, with an average of €1,300 per tourist.

Across Spain, the trend is equally robust: 76.5 million international arrivals in the first nine months of 2025, 3.5% more than last year, and a record €105.8 billion in total spending, underlining the sector’s continued strength as the high season draws to a close.
