Somatic therapist Sebastian Cramer: “Yoga quite literally saved my life”

After 40 moves across continents, Sebastian Cramer has finally found a sense of home in a small village in the heart of Mallorca. A somatic therapist and coach, he helps others reconnect with their bodies, navigate life transitions, and uncover buried intuition — something he had to learn the hard way. Here, Sebastian speaks with Humans of Mallorca about burnout, belonging, and why he’s done with airports.

Where are you from?

I was conceived in Turkey, born in Argentina, and raised across Argentina, Brazil, Germany, and South Africa. My schooling took me through more than 150 institutions — as a student, teacher, and researcher — and I later studied at universities in the Netherlands, Argentina, Germany, and Spain. Each country left its mark.

My parents, Andrés and Elena, were both born in Argentina to families of German origin. They gave me so much: a love of learning, a drive to work hard, and the courage to speak up and follow my own path — even if it wasn’t conventional.

That said, the constant moving left me feeling unrooted — from others, and from myself. That sense of disconnection stayed with me into adulthood, but it’s also what led me to the work I do today.

What were your dreams as a child?

I wanted to be a lawyer. I’ve always been deeply sensitive to injustice, I couldn’t stand seeing people treated unfairly, and becoming a lawyer felt like a way to change that. But life had other plans.

Where do you live now, and what drew you to Mallorca?

I live in the heart of the island, what people might call Mallorca profunda, in a quiet, traditional village. where people still greet each other by name and kids know everyone in town. It’s a place where people still speak only Mallorquí, where tourists are few even in summer, and where everyone knows each other by name. After moving 40 times in 40 years, I’ve found something rare: a place that finally feels like home.

I love Mallorca. Despite having deep connections to many places around the world, I don’t really miss them — because here, I have so much. The island is international and culturally rich, but also deeply rooted in tradition. I love the beaches, I love the mountains — and here, I don’t have to choose. I can wake up with the sea on one side and the Serra de Tramuntana on the other.

And I love the people. Not just the international community, but the Mallorcans themselves — kind, open-hearted, and genuine.

How did you become a somatic therapist and coach?

It wasn’t one big decision — more a long, winding journey. I grew up feeling disconnected from my body, my emotions, and any stable sense of identity. That disconnection drove me into high-performance environments that eventually led to burnout.

The first time I burned out, I discovered yoga and meditation — and it truly saved my life. But I didn’t listen deeply enough. I went back to my old ways and hit burnout again. That second crash forced me to finally face the trauma I’d been carrying for years.

That’s when I found somatic therapy. Through embodiment work, I began to reconnect with myself. I started sharing what I was learning, and slowly, I realized that this is what I want to do: help people reconnect with their bodies and unlock the power of intuition. That’s the path that changed everything for me.

Tell us about Integrate Soma and Beyond Mindset.

I launched Integrate Soma three years ago, shortly after moving to Mallorca. The vision behind Integrate Soma is simple yet profound: to change the way people relate to themselves, to others — family, friends, colleagues — and to life itself. At its core, it’s about helping people reconnect to the intelligence of the body and unlock the power of their human intuition — often buried beneath layers of stress, conditioning, and unresolved emotion.

Beyond Mindset is the next chapter. It’s about guiding people into a state of joy and purpose using the Intuitive Self-Leadership Method I’ve developed. I’m also training others to become facilitators of this work — so the impact can ripple out far beyond me.

Who are your clients?

Most of my clients are navigating some version of a midlife crisis — not necessarily in the cliché sense, but in the deeply human sense of realizing that the tools that once brought them success are no longer enough. They’ve hit a wall. Something feels off, incomplete, or unsustainable — and they know it.

These are people who have often been highly successful in their professional lives, but who suddenly find themselves facing internal challenges that can’t be solved by logic, strategy, or pushing harder. That’s when they start seeking new perspectives and deeper forms of connection — especially with themselves.

They come from all walks of life — entrepreneurs, leaders, creatives, parents — but they share a common trait: they’re ready to grow. They’re willing to face discomfort, to explore what’s been buried, and to rediscover the inner voice they’ve ignored for too long.

What’s the most rewarding part of your work?

When someone drops the mask. When they show up as they truly are — beneath the roles, the achievements, the coping strategies — we arrive at something profoundly honest.

In those moments, there’s no performance, no pretending. Just presence.

Do you remember your first professional success?

Yes — it was in Barcelona. I admired a publishing company there and decided I wanted to work with them. I walked in with my CV and introduced myself. A few months later, they hired me. Three months after that, I was promoted to department head. It taught me that authenticity, initiative, and boldness can open a lot of doors.

Have you ever reached a point where you didn’t know how to go on?

Yes, more than once. One time was during university. Another, I felt an overwhelming need to leave where I was living but didn’t know where to go. In both cases, what helped wasn’t thinking harder — it was stepping away. I went into nature. I slept under the stars. And clarity came. Whenever I felt lost, overwhelmed, or disconnected, I turned to the natural world. Nature doesn’t demand answers. It offers presence

What do you take from those moments?

I learned that I have to listen to my intuition — no matter what. If something feels off, it is off. And when I ignore that gut feeling, I inevitably end up on the wrong path. My body knows before my mind does. Trusting that inner signal has become my compass. It’s not always the easiest path, but it’s always the right one.

What are your goals this year?

Professionally, I want to expand the reach of this work — especially into companies where leadership and resilience matter more than ever. On a personal level, I’m building a patchwork family. I have a daughter, my wife has a son, and together we’re weaving our lives into one. It’s beautiful — and yes, full of challenges — but it’s also one of the most meaningful things I’ve ever done.

And as for travel? My plan is simple: don’t. After 43 years of constant movement, I want to stay on this island, grow roots, and see what happens when I finally stop running. That, in itself, is an adventure.
