If you know pre pandemic London restaurants you will know this man’s name. A wonderful family pedigree of gastronomy and working the room. This successful Northeast and then London restaurateur, is renowned for being quirky, stylish and specialising in simple, excellent food and organic wines. His raft of London successes rarely gets a mention now as all the current energy is on the Ice Cream.
These days he has brought it all to Mallorca where he is fast becoming a frozen ‘Human of Mallorca’. This time he is concentrating on the Ice Cream, organic wine and the creation of a new concept. He has opened an Ice Cream & Natural Wine Parlour in Soller, Mallorca. A home from home in sun. Apart from his terrible jokes and having a chat, he will make unique ice creams and deliver to the finest spots on the island. Ice cream made to order is part of what he does. When he is not being ‘high end’ he will fill a cornet or two. He also has the finest home-made choc ices in production.
Small town life, posh ice cream, superb coffee, an Italian Cattabriga machine (first made in 1927 to replicate the texture of hand churned ice-cream) are Rory’s delights. Put that together with the importance of family life plus the gorgeous baby, and he knows he is in the right place.
Some Humans of Mallorca take a while to get here but know when they have arrived. Rory’s modesty will not claim anything. He just wants local people to enjoy ice cream creations, pass the time of day, and groan at his attempts at humour.
We know we are in the presence of Human of Mallorca ice cream royalty, with a nod to the past. This is ‘ice cream’ how it used to be before fillers, additives and preservatives — just delicious.
