Rae Bell. Australia, UK, France, Malaysia and Norway have all been home before Mallorca

A child of the ‘RAAF’ with the world of the Royal Australian Air Force being the driver of her young life. This is how Rae would describe her early years of travel, with her military parents, to interesting places. Seven different schools in locations including New Guinea, London, Paris, Malaysia and Australia. The world and all its opportunities were laid out before this well-travelled young lady, and off she went.

She met the Norwegian, who was to become her husband, while working in Perugia in Italy. A new life including marriage, motherhood and medical training all awaited her in a country of snowy winters and a full contrast to life in Australia. Her medical speciality was Anaesthesia and Pain.  She was head of the Pain Clinic in Bergen for 25 years. Her research project into Palliative Care is highly renowned.

After her parents’ death Rae inherited a holiday home on the Gold Coast of Australia. A glorious gift but in the wrong location for her at this stage of her life.  The quest began for the location which would include glorious sunshine, a village life, ease of travel to Norway, and beauty. As an in-depth researcher Rae scoured the internet and visited many locations in Spain and France. The process took over three years and her family were despairing of her ever deciding.

The trusty internet threw Mallorca into her consciousness. Initially rejected because of the Magaluf associations but considered again once the centre of Soller appeared on screen. Then began the journey which has made her today, a Human of Mallorca. The train journey to the Soller Valley is her love story of the Valley.  She knew instantly that this stunningly beautiful place was where she wanted to be. Mallorca had created its own magic and had called her.

Seven years later she lives in a village house in the centre of town. She enjoys great relationships with local people and loves them for all their history and their warm welcome. Mallorca ticks all the boxes in her researcher’s mind.  More than that. the place is now in her soul ,and is why, today, she is a Human of Mallorca.
