A thirty-year career with the French Air force brought Pierre to Mallorca. Life was at the top of the highest mountain, The Puig Major, where he was watching the progress of the planes in that military listening station as an air traffic controller. His arrival in the Northwest corner of Mallorca was re-creating the Algerian world he was originally from. Algeria today might be opening up as a tourist destination, but Pierre knows its beauty and beaches first hand from his youth. Life in France together with Algeria, prepared him for this corner of Mallorca. So many residents have French in their DNA in the Soller Valley.
Pierre became a Taxi Driver and is still one today. He spends his life listening to passengers arriving and leaving Mallorca. He knows many stories of the experiences people have when they holiday or relocate to this island. To keep their secrets is important to him. Sometimes a long car journey encourages confidences which are not to be broken. He has the reputation of being ‘the Mr Nice Guy cab driver’.
He has lost count of the new cabs he has bought in his career. Most of them are worked 24 hours a day to make a good income. To have family members sharing the shifts is the way most busy drivers operate.
At present Pierre is nursing a ‘curved ball’. Racing heart beats took him into hospital to shock his system back into line. Then a pacemaker to hold it all steady again was the next procedure. He is almost ready to answer those phone calls again and begin the journeys. But not before listening to the Doctors and enjoying the scenery for a few more weeks.
Pierre is a Human of Mallorca who is listening to his heart today.
