I step into Mallorca and the island envelops me. My mind is racing with things I want to do and see. It is the first ensaimada at Ca’n Joan de s’Aigo in Palma which tells me I am back. The taste of the island grounds me ready for family stuff and adventures.
I am a ‘Human of the world’. London, Los Angeles, Malaysia are all home to me, I was born in one and lived for equal parts of my life, in the others. In 2024 I am in L.A. as a lawyer for Disney in a studio setting. The corporate world has clipped my wings and travel is confined to holidays.
I am at one with my Mallorca. It is where I have family and I have returned since beach holidays as a five-year-old. When I am working in LA, I think every day of the people and the place which are so important to me. My ambition is to have a home there one day.
My recent Mallorca trip included fiestas, scuba diving and taking a motorboat out to swim in the clearest coves on the Northwest coast. A family paella created for my birthday was a joy. To laugh around a busy table fed my soul and contributed much to my memory box.
I am a Human of Mallorca because the plans of others in my life introduced me to their island. I was here before the huge numbers of my fellow US friends who are now discovering it for the first time. I share Mallorca with a multicultural mix, on a traditional island, which knows it’s worth.
I am a Human of Mallorca because I want to be. So much joy and happiness are here for me. I want to enjoy the moment and share it with all who are part of my tribe.’
