What do you do when life as you know it changes direction and country? Caleb had a Mallorcan childhood full of the great outdoors, cliff jumping into the sea, football, family and village life. How do you change that for Emory University in Atlanta Georgia? He always knew that when he got to university age the family connection to the USA would come into play. School in Mallorca was total immersion into the languages of the island. A nod to English, but until the 6th form, not the language of his education. To be bi-lingual is very important to Caleb and marks him out as a human of the wider world. Communication in all its forms is very important in his life.
Working as a waiter in a village bar through the school holidays has allowed him to appreciate that work can be fun. Giving great service brings its own rewards and he can see why many make hospitality their career choice. He just wishes it would pay more to finance the lifestyle he wants as his life develops.
As for the future he knows that he will always come home for holidays. He can see himself returning in later life permanently, but right now there is a big world to discover, including so much of Spain he wants to experience. Visiting many parts of Spain is on his radar and he began this summer in Bilbao.
Mallorca has prepared him for the multiculturalism of his university peer group. The South American connection allows him to have his Spanish conversations. He continues to learn so much from friends from Nigeria, Puerto Rico, India, Brazil and the USA. Emory is a melting pot university and Caleb is glad to be there.
Neuroscience employs his university mind and is the direction his studies are leading. No decisions yet and as a great goalkeeper in his years in Mallorca, the sports call sits at the back of his head.
Caleb is a young man who, as a Human of Mallorca is well prepared for the beginning of his future in this wonderful world.
