Renting is the perfect solution: dress to impress with help from “The Dressing Room”

“The Dressing Room” is the brainchild of Beatriz Tomás. The genius concept that’s helping islanders to move away from the concept of ‘fast fashion’, to more sustainable styling, via a beautifully bougie dress rental boutique in Calvia. Beatriz’s route into fashion has been seamless, her obvious flair for fashion makes her the ideal person to style señoritas whatever the occasion.

If you’re a lover of luxe brands (like me), but your budget is perhaps more Primark, than Prada, then renting can be the perfect solution. You can pose in polka dots from Self Portrait, or raise a glass of fizz whilst clad in Rixo. And best of all, you’ll be safe in the knowledge that not only is your overdraft not taking a battering, but you’re doing your bit for the environment — ensuring that yet another party frock isn’t going to fin its way into a landfill.

So back to the concept. Island local, Beatriz cottoned onto the fact that many women splurge on outfits for BIG occasions. Only for those frocks to then languish at the back of wardrobes — gathering dust, having burned a hole in your savings account simultaneously. Rather than indulging in these spenny purchases (because let’s face it, we all want to look our best at a wedding/birthday/christenings), occasion wear doesn’t always come cheap, and aside from that, it often comes with a terrible cost per wear ratio.

“The Dressing Room” is a candy colored dream located in Calvia. It feels a little like how I imagine it might feel to saunter into Carrie Bradshaw’s infamous closet. Beatriz has curated a feast for the eyes, and a genuine treasure trove of glad rags. You can find brands such as Zimmerman, Isabel Marant and Maje. Giving gals access to designer garms that might not usually be within reach. With over 190 dresses on hand, the main problem you’re likely to have is attempting to be narrow down your options. By renting, you have the freedom and flexibility to step out of your comfort zone and into something fabulous. It’s also worth noting that there’s a host of rental packages available and dry cleaning is built into the price.

So how does it work if you’re keen to play dress up? You can book a free of charge appointment with Bea, whose style advice is second to none. Don’t find something you fancy? Don’t worry, there’s no cost involved. You can explore new styles, new labels and put the fun back into functions, by experimenting in a way that feels frivolous, but is financially (and environmentally) savvy. Let’s face it, both your style and budget can change as quickly as trends come and go, so why not rent and lean into the feeling of having something ‘brand new’ without the hefty price tag.
